The short answer

How to prepare for matric 2027 (SSC, the 2026 to 2027 session): get your board's syllabus and model papers, cover each chapter once by about January, then spend the last 10 weeks on timed past papers and error review. Class 9 and Class 10 both count toward your SSC result, so start now rather than in March.

Where do matric exams stand in October 2026?

As of October 2026, the 2026 matric annual exams are finished and second annual (supplementary) exams are running. The next big exam for current Class 9 and Class 10 students is the annual exam of 2027, whose date sheets are not out yet.

What happened in 2026, so you can estimate 2027:

Board2026 annual exam2026 second annual
FBISE (Federal Board)SSC Part I and II: 31 March to 4 May 2026 (APP)Started 24 September 2026; practicals from 27 October (Eduvision)
BISE Lahore (and other Punjab boards)Class 10: 27 March to 16 April; Class 9: 17 April to 8 May 2026 (Result.pk)Class 10: 6 to 16 October; Class 9: 17 to 28 October; practicals 30 October to 17 November 2026 (ilmkidunya)

Takeaway: matric papers usually start in late March. Count back from there.

What is the matric paper pattern for 2026 to 2027?

The matric paper pattern depends on your board. Both FBISE and the Punjab boards have recently shifted toward conceptual questions.

FBISE (Federal Board): Papers are SLO-based, set from FBISE's Assessment Frameworks rather than one textbook. A 7 August 2026 FBISE notification moves Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Computer Science to 50% MCQs and 50% descriptive. It starts with SSC-I (Class 9) students under the Inclusive Scheme of Studies 2024 in the Second Annual 2026 and First Annual 2027, and reaches SSC-II (Class 10) from the First Annual 2028. In the Physics SSC-I model paper, that means 60 MCQs worth 30 marks in 1 hour 20 minutes, including 20 scenario-based MCQs. Most Class 10 students in 2027 stay on their current pattern; download the model paper for your scheme from the FBISE model paper page. Full details are in our FBISE preparation guide.

Punjab boards: The Punjab Boards Committee of Chairmen (PBCC) decided in 2023 that from the 1st Annual 2024 exams, 25% of each paper would be analytical and conceptual questions (Eduvision). Each board publishes a pairing scheme for chapter weightage. See our Punjab board preparation guide.

Other boards (KP, Sindh, Balochistan, AJK, AKU-EB): Download the current model papers and scheme of studies from your board's website before you start. The method below still applies.

How do I prepare for matric 2027 with a study plan?

Make a matric study plan by working backwards from late March, in three phases.

  1. October to January, learn: Cover every chapter once. Aim for one chapter per subject per week. After each chapter, do 15 to 20 MCQs and 2 short questions without looking at the book.
  2. February to mid-March, practise: One timed past or model paper per subject per week. Keep an error notebook.
  3. Last 2 to 3 weeks, revise: Short notes, formulas, diagrams, definitions and your error notebook. Full papers every other day.

A realistic weekday: 2 to 3 hours after school, split into 25-minute focus blocks. One lighter day per week keeps you from burning out.

Qurricular is a board exam prep app for Pakistani students from Class 9 to A Level. Its planner reads your board's official date sheet (FBISE and the Punjab boards included) when it's released and builds each week back from your first paper, adjusting if you miss a day.

How do I study the main matric subjects?

Each matric subject needs its own habit. These tips work on any board.

Matric Mathematics

Solve problems every day. Redo exercise questions you got wrong until you can do them cold. In the exam, show every step: steps earn marks even if the final answer slips.

Matric Physics

Learn each formula with its unit. Use a fixed routine for numericals: given, find, formula, substitute, answer with unit.

Matric Chemistry

Make one page of key reactions, definitions and formulas per chapter. Practise balancing equations until it's automatic.

Matric Biology

Diagrams carry easy marks. Draw each one from memory and label it in under 3 minutes. Learn definitions exactly, then explain processes in your own words.

Matric Computer Science

Trace code on paper and predict the output. Practise writing short programs and flowcharts by hand, since the exam is on paper.

Matric English

Read one unseen passage and write one short composition every week. Formats for letters, applications and essays are free marks; learn them once.

Matric Urdu, Islamiyat and Pakistan Studies

Write answers in points with headings. For Urdu, practise tashreeh in a fixed structure and time yourself. For Pakistan Studies, make a one-page timeline per chapter.

How should matric students use past papers?

Matric students should use past papers as timed exams, then study every mistake.

  1. Sit the paper with a timer, phone in another room.
  2. Mark it with the scheme or a teacher.
  3. Write each mistake in your error notebook with the correct method.
  4. Retry those questions 3 days later, then a week later.
  5. Track which topics repeat across 5 years of papers.

Past papers from your own board matter most. If your board has just changed its pattern (like FBISE's 50% MCQ change), use its official model papers too. Full method: how to use past papers.

What should I do in the last month before matric papers?

In the last month before matric papers, stop starting new chapters and focus on full timed papers, short notes and sleep.

  • One full paper a day, rotating subjects.
  • Re-read your error notebook every 3 days.
  • Revise formulas, diagrams and definitions in short 25-minute blocks with 5-minute breaks.
  • Sleep 7 to 8 hours. Kal paper hai? One calm revision pass, then bed.

On exam day, reach the centre at least 30 minutes early with your roll number slip. Read the whole paper first, do the questions you know, and keep 10 minutes to check.

What grades do matric students get?

Matric grades depend on the board. FBISE uses a revised scale notified in October 2025: A++ for 96 to 100%, A+ for 91 to 95%, A for 86 to 90%, down to D for 40 to 50%, with below 40% requiring a reappearance (APP). It applies from the 2026 annual exams for SSC-I and from 2027 for SSC-II. Punjab and other boards publish their own grading rules; check your board's site.

High marks are worth chasing, because they open doors for FSc admissions and scholarships. Toppers are built, not crammed: daily practice and honest mistake review is the whole secret. Frequently asked questions

When do matric annual exams start in 2027?

As of October 2026, neither FBISE nor the Punjab boards have published 2027 matric date sheets. In 2026, FBISE SSC papers started on 31 March and BISE Lahore Class 10 papers on 27 March, so plan for late March and confirm on your board's website.

Is matric Class 9 counted in the final result?

Yes. Matric (SSC) is a two-part exam: Part I in Class 9 and Part II in Class 10, and both parts make up your SSC result. A strong Class 9 result takes pressure off Class 10.

How many hours should I study for matric?

Around 2 to 3 focused hours a day after school is enough for most matric students, rising to 4 or 5 in the final month. Short daily sessions with practice questions work better than long weekend cramming.

Can I improve my matric marks after the result?

Usually yes. Boards hold a second annual (supplementary) exam where students can reappear or improve. Rules and fees differ by board, so check your board's notice.

Are FBISE and Punjab board matric papers the same?

No. FBISE sets SLO-based papers from its Assessment Frameworks and is moving science and maths to 50% MCQs, while the nine Punjab boards publish their own date sheets and pairing schemes through the PBCC. The study method in this guide works for both.
