The short answer

How to prepare for FBISE 2027 (the 2026 to 2027 session): study from the SLOs in FBISE's Assessment Frameworks (not one textbook), practise the new 50% MCQ pattern in science and maths, solve timed past and model papers every week, and plan your revision backwards from the date sheet. This guide covers all four classes: SSC-I, SSC-II, HSSC-I and HSSC-II.

Where does the FBISE 2026 to 2027 session stand right now?

As of October 2026, the FBISE first annual exams of 2026 are over and the SSC second annual exam is running. According to APP, SSC Part I and II first annual papers ran from 31 March to 4 May 2026, and The News reported HSSC Part I and II papers from 14 May to 22 June 2026, with practicals from 29 June.

The SSC second annual exam started on 24 September 2026, with practical-based assessments until 24 October and other practicals from 27 October, as reported by Eduvision. If you are in Class 9, 10, 11 or 12 now, your next target is the First Annual Examination 2027. Its date sheet is not out yet. When it lands, check it on the official site and our FBISE date sheet 2026 page.

What is the FBISE paper pattern for 2026 to 2027?

The biggest change is that FBISE is moving its five core subjects to 50% MCQs and 50% descriptive questions. The FBISE notification of 7 August 2026 applies this to Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Computer Science at both SSC and HSSC, phase by phase:

Who you areWhich pattern applies (per FBISE notification)
Class 9 (SSC-I) or Class 11 (HSSC-I), Inclusive Scheme of Studies 2024, sitting First Annual 2027New 50% MCQ pattern
Fresh SSC-I or HSSC-I students in the Second Annual 2026New 50% MCQ pattern
Class 10 (SSC-II) or Class 12 (HSSC-II) in First Annual 2027New pattern only if you already sat SSC-I or HSSC-I in it in Second Annual 2026; otherwise your existing pattern
SSC-II and HSSC-II from First Annual 2028New pattern for everyone who sat it in Part I

What the new pattern looks like, using FBISE's own model papers:

  • Physics SSC-I model paper: 60 theory marks. Section A has 60 MCQs at half a mark each (30 marks) in 1 hour 20 minutes. 40 are straight MCQs and 20 are scenario-based. Section B has 6 short questions of 3 marks each and Section C has 2 questions of 6 marks, both with internal choice, in 1 hour 40 minutes.
  • Physics HSSC-I model paper: 80 theory marks, with 80 MCQs at half a mark each (40 marks).

If you are on the older pattern (for example most Class 10 students in 2027), the MCQ section is much smaller. The 2025 Physics SSC-II model paper gives Section A 12 marks in 20 minutes, then Sections B and C 53 marks in 2 hours 40 minutes. English, Urdu, Islamiyat and Pakistan Studies are not part of the 50% change.

For a subject-by-subject breakdown, read our FBISE paper pattern 2027 guide.

What does "SLO-based" mean for FBISE students?

SLO-based means the FBISE paper is set from Student Learning Outcomes, not from a particular textbook's exercises. FBISE's 2024 notification says exams are "based on Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) given in the respective curriculum (Assessment Frameworks) instead of textbooks", and that only summative SLOs are examined.

In practice this changes three things:

  1. Your checklist is the Assessment Framework, not the book index. Download it for each subject from the FBISE model paper page and tick off each summative SLO.
  2. Ratta of book answers is not enough. Questions are reworded and set in new situations (the 20 scenario MCQs above are a good example). You need to understand the idea well enough to apply it.
  3. The Table of Specifications tells you the weight. FBISE publishes a Table of Specifications (ToS) with each framework, showing how marks spread across units and thinking levels. Spend time in proportion.

How do I prepare for FBISE 2027 working back from the date sheet?

Plan backwards from your first paper, in three phases. If the date sheet isn't out, use last year's start date as a placeholder (SSC started 31 March 2026, HSSC 14 May 2026) and adjust when FBISE publishes.

  1. Phase 1, learn (now to about 10 weeks before paper 1): Cover every summative SLO once. One chapter per subject per week is a sane pace. End each chapter with 20 MCQs and two short questions.
  2. Phase 2, practise (10 to 4 weeks before): Switch to mixed practice. Do one timed past or model paper per subject per week and fix every mistake in an error notebook.
  3. Phase 3, revise (last 30 days): Full papers, error-notebook review, formulas and definitions. No new chapters unless something is completely missing.

Build a weekly timetable with 5 study days and 1 lighter day. Our study timetable guide has templates.

If you would rather not do the maths yourself, Qurricular can do it. Qurricular is a board exam prep app for Pakistani students from Class 9 to A Level; its planner reads the official FBISE date sheet when the board releases it, plans each week back from your first paper, and adjusts if you miss a day.

How should I use FBISE past papers?

Use past papers as timed tests, not reading material. The method that works:

  1. Start with model papers. For the new 50% pattern, FBISE's own model papers are the closest thing to the real paper because very few real papers exist in that format yet.
  2. Time yourself exactly. Do the MCQ section within its own time limit, then the descriptive part separately, just like the exam hall.
  3. Mark honestly. Use the FBISE marking scheme or ask a teacher to mark long answers.
  4. Log every mistake. Write the SLO, what you did wrong and the correct method. Re-attempt that question 3 days later.
  5. Notice repeats. SLO-based papers reuse the same outcomes in new wording. Note which SLOs show up every year.

The full method is in how to use past papers.

How do I prepare each FBISE subject?

Each subject rewards a slightly different habit. These tips apply across Class 9 to 12.

FBISE Mathematics

Do problems daily, not just before tests. With half the marks now in MCQs (new pattern), speed matters: practise sets of 20 MCQs in 20 minutes. For long questions, write every step, because steps carry marks.

FBISE Physics

Learn each formula with its units and a one-line meaning. For numericals, follow a fixed routine: given, required, formula, substitution, answer with unit. For practicals, know your vernier caliper and screw gauge readings cold.

FBISE Chemistry

Make a one-page sheet per chapter with reactions, conditions and colour changes. Balance equations daily. Scenario MCQs often describe an experiment, so understand why each step happens.

FBISE Biology

Draw and label diagrams until you can do them from memory in 3 minutes. Learn definitions word for word, then practise explaining processes in your own words for descriptive questions.

FBISE Computer Science

Write and run code, don't just read it. Trace programs on paper and predict output; that is exactly what MCQs test.

FBISE English

English is not memorisable. Read one unseen passage a day and answer the questions, and write one letter, essay or story a week. Format and structure carry marks, so learn each format once and reuse it. The 2025 English SSC-II model paper shows a 15-mark Section A in 20 minutes and 60 marks for Sections B and C in 2 hours 40 minutes.

FBISE Urdu

Practise tashreeh and khulasa in a fixed structure, and time them.

FBISE Islamiyat and Pakistan Studies

Make short, dated timelines and point-form answers. Examiners reward clear headings and relevant points over long paragraphs.

What should I do in the last 30 days before the FBISE exam?

In the last 30 days, stop learning new material and switch to timed full papers, error review and short-note revision.

  • Days 30 to 15: One full timed paper every day, rotating subjects. Review mistakes the same evening.
  • Days 14 to 7: Two passes through your short notes, formula sheets and diagrams. Re-attempt every question in your error notebook.
  • Days 6 to 1: Light revision of high-weight SLOs from the Table of Specifications. Sleep 7 to 8 hours. Kal paper hai? Revise, then sleep. An all-nighter costs more marks than it gains.

Use 25-minute focus blocks with 5-minute breaks (the Pomodoro technique) to keep revision sharp.

What should I do on FBISE exam day?

On exam day, arrive early, read the whole paper first, and manage time section by section.

  1. Reach the centre at least 30 minutes early with your roll number slip and permitted stationery. In the September 2026 SSC second annual, candidates had to report by 2:00 PM for a 2:30 PM paper (Eduvision).
  2. In the MCQ section, answer the ones you know first, mark the rest, then return. Fill bubbles carefully.
  3. In the descriptive section, use headings, draw diagrams in pencil, and show every step in numericals.
  4. Keep 10 minutes at the end to check units, labels and missed parts.

What grades does FBISE give in 2026 to 2027?

FBISE uses a revised grade scale notified on 7 October 2025, reported by APP. It applies from the First Annual 2026 for SSC-I and HSSC-I, and from the First Annual 2027 for SSC-II and HSSC-II.

Aiming for A++? It is built, not crammed: understand every SLO, practise daily and review every mistake. Our guide on how to aim for 95% in FBISE Class 10 goes deeper.

Frequently asked questions

Is the FBISE paper 50% MCQs now?

Yes, for Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Computer Science under the Inclusive Scheme of Studies 2024. FBISE's notification of 7 August 2026 starts the 50% MCQ, 50% descriptive pattern at SSC-I and HSSC-I from the Second Annual Examination 2026 and the First Annual Examination 2027, and at SSC-II and HSSC-II from 2028.

Are FBISE papers set from the textbook or from SLOs?

FBISE papers are set from the Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) in each subject's Assessment Framework, not from one textbook. Only the SLOs marked as summative in the framework are examined in the board paper.

When is the FBISE annual exam 2027?

As of October 2026, FBISE has not published the 2027 annual date sheet. In 2026, SSC papers ran from 31 March to 4 May and HSSC papers from 14 May to 22 June, so expect a similar window, and confirm on fbise.edu.pk.

How many hours a day should I study for FBISE?

Two to three focused hours on school days and four to five in the last 30 days works for most students. Consistency beats marathon nights: daily practice and review build marks more reliably than cramming.

What is the passing percentage in FBISE?

Under FBISE's revised grading notified on 7 October 2025, 40% is the minimum. Below 40% a student must reappear; 96 to 100% earns A++.
