The short answer

How to prepare for FSc 2027 (HSSC, the 2026 to 2027 session): finish your syllabus by February, then spend March to May on timed past and model papers for your board. Focus hardest on your three group subjects (Physics, Chemistry and Biology or Mathematics), practise numericals daily, and treat 1st year as seriously as 2nd year because both parts count.

When are the next FSc exams?

As of October 2026, the 2026 inter annual exams are over and the next main exams for current 1st and 2nd year students are the 2027 annual exams, whose date sheets are not out yet.

Here is what happened in 2026, so you can plan for a similar window:

Board2026 annual inter examsWhat's next
FBISE (Federal Board)HSSC Part I and II: 14 May to 22 June 2026, practicals from 29 June (The News)2027 annual date sheet not yet published
Punjab boards (PBCC)Proposed start 20 May 2026; Class 12 result 23 September; Class 11 result likely 12 October (Result.pk)Second annual exams proposed to start 3 November 2026, results around 12 January 2027 (same source)

So for 2027, assume your first paper is in mid to late May and work backwards. Once the board publishes, check the official date sheet.

What is the FSc paper pattern for 2026 to 2027?

The FSc paper pattern depends on your board and, for FBISE, on your scheme of studies.

FBISE HSSC: Papers are SLO-based, set from FBISE's Assessment Frameworks rather than a single textbook. A 7 August 2026 notification moves Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics and Computer Science to 50% MCQs and 50% descriptive:

  • HSSC-I (1st year) students under the Inclusive Scheme of Studies 2024 get the new pattern from the Second Annual 2026 and in the First Annual 2027.
  • HSSC-II (2nd year) moves to it from the First Annual 2028 for students who sat it in Part I. Most 2nd year students in 2027 stay on their current pattern.

The Physics HSSC-I model paper shows the new shape: 80 theory marks, with 80 MCQs at half a mark each (40 marks) and 40 marks of short and long questions. Download the right model paper for your class from the FBISE model paper page.

Punjab boards: Since the 1st Annual 2024 exams, 25% of each paper is analytical and conceptual questions, according to the PBCC decision reported by Eduvision. Check your board's pairing scheme for chapter weightage.

How should I prepare for FSc 2027 week by week?

Make an FSc study plan by counting back from your first paper in three phases.

  1. October to February, learn: Cover every chapter once. In 1st year, the big subjects move fast, so do one chapter per subject per week. Finish each chapter with MCQs, short questions and at least five numericals or derivations.
  2. March to April, practise: One timed past or model paper per subject per week. Keep an error notebook: question, what went wrong, correct method.
  3. Last 4 to 5 weeks, revise: Full papers, formula sheets, derivations, diagrams and the error notebook. No new chapters.

A realistic weekday: 3 focused hours after college, in 25 to 50 minute blocks. Templates: how to make a study timetable.

Qurricular is a board exam prep app for Pakistani students from Class 9 to A Level. Its planner reads your board's official date sheet when it's released and spreads your chapters across the weeks before your first paper, re-planning if you miss a day.

How do I prepare for FSc Pre-Medical?

For FSc Pre-Medical, the core is Biology, Chemistry and Physics, and the winning habit is precise definitions plus daily diagrams.

  • Biology: Learn definitions exactly, then explain each process in your own words. Draw and label diagrams from memory. Biology chapters are long, so revise in small daily chunks.
  • Chemistry: One page per chapter for reactions, conditions and named processes. Organic chemistry rewards a reaction map you redraw weekly.
  • Physics: Pre-Medical students often avoid numericals. Don't. Do five a day; they carry real marks.

How do I prepare for FSc Pre-Engineering?

For FSc Pre-Engineering, Mathematics and Physics decide your result, and both need daily problem solving.

  • Mathematics: Solve every exercise question at least once, and redo the ones you got wrong. Calculus in 2nd year builds on 1st year functions and limits, so fix weak 1st year topics early.
  • Physics: Use a fixed numerical routine: given, find, formula, substitute, answer with unit. See physics numericals step by step. Learn derivations as a chain of steps, not a block of text.
  • Chemistry: Same one-page-per-chapter method as Pre-Medical.

How do I prepare for ICS?

For ICS, Computer Science and Mathematics carry the most weight, and the key is writing code by hand.

  • Computer Science: Trace programs on paper and predict output. Practise writing short programs on paper, since the board exam is not on a computer.
  • Mathematics: Daily problem practice, as above.
  • Your third subject (it depends on your board and college): Follow your board's model papers and past papers for it.

Do FSc marks matter if I'm taking MDCAT or ECAT?

Yes, FSc marks matter even if you plan to take MDCAT or ECAT, because medical and engineering admissions in Pakistan usually combine the entry test score with board marks. A strong FSc result keeps your options open. Check each university's current merit formula on its official site. (This guide covers board exams only. Qurricular doesn't offer entry test preparation.) Still choosing a path? Read pre-medical or pre-engineering or explore careers.

How should FSc students use past papers?

FSc students should solve at least five years of their own board's past papers under timed conditions, then study the mistakes.

  1. Time the whole paper, MCQs first, exactly like the exam.
  2. Mark it with the scheme or ask a teacher to mark long answers.
  3. Log mistakes in your error notebook and retry them after 3 days.
  4. Note which topics and derivations repeat.

If your board just changed its pattern, use its official model papers too. Full method: how to use past papers.

What should I do in the last month before FSc papers?

In the last month before FSc papers, switch fully to revision: one timed full paper a day, formula and derivation sheets, and your error notebook every 3 days. Keep practicals in mind too: know your experiments, readings and viva questions.

Sleep 7 to 8 hours. Kal paper hai? Revise your one-page notes and sleep; tired brains drop easy marks. On exam day, arrive at least 30 minutes early, read the whole paper first, and show every step in numericals.

What is the FSc grading scale?

The FSc grading scale depends on your board. FBISE uses a revised scale notified in October 2025: A++ for 96 to 100%, A+ for 91 to 95%, A for 86 to 90%, B++ 81 to 85%, B+ 76 to 80%, B 71 to 75%, C+ 61 to 70%, C 51 to 60% and D 40 to 50%, with below 40% needing a reappearance (APP). It applies to HSSC-I from 2026 and HSSC-II from 2027. Punjab boards publish their own rules.

Aim high. Toppers are built, not crammed: understand each concept, practise daily, and review every mistake.

Frequently asked questions

When are FSc exams in 2027?

As of October 2026, the 2027 inter date sheets are not out. In 2026, FBISE HSSC papers ran from 14 May to 22 June, and the Punjab boards' proposed schedule started inter exams on 20 May, so expect mid to late May and confirm on your board's website.

Do FSc marks matter for MDCAT and ECAT?

Yes. Medical and engineering admissions in Pakistan usually combine your entry test score with your board marks, so strong FSc marks help even if you also take MDCAT or ECAT. Check each university's current merit formula.

Is 1st year (Class 11) important in FSc?

Yes. HSSC is a two-part exam and Part I counts toward your final inter result, so 1st year marks matter as much as 2nd year.

How many hours should I study for FSc?

Three focused hours a day on top of college is a strong routine for most FSc students, rising to five or six hours in the final six weeks. Daily problem practice matters more than total hours.

Is the FBISE HSSC paper 50% MCQs?

For HSSC-I under the Inclusive Scheme of Studies 2024, yes: FBISE's 7 August 2026 notification applies a 50% MCQ, 50% descriptive pattern to Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics and Computer Science from the Second Annual 2026. HSSC-II follows from 2028.
