A veterinarian (DVM) prevents, diagnoses, and treats diseases and injuries in animals. In Pakistan, vets work with livestock (cattle, sheep, goats), poultry, pets (dogs, cats), and sometimes zoo or wild animals. DVM admission needs FSc Pre-Medical with Biology and Chemistry, and MDCAT biology is the biggest section. The cell, human and animal body systems, and classification chapters you learn in Matric Biology are the foundation of Class 11–12 zoology. Aim for 90%+ in Biology, not just a pass.
Keep Chemistry and Physics close behindClass 9–10
MDCAT tests Chemistry and Physics too, and DVM programmes weigh FSc marks. Matric Chemistry (atomic structure, chemical bonds, acids and bases) and Physics (motion, electricity, light) reappear in FSc with harder versions. Understanding them now makes Class 11 far easier.
Choose your group with the vet path in mindClass 10, before admissions
The big decision at the end of Class 10 is FSc Pre-Medical (Biology, Chemistry, Physics) — the standard route to DVM. ICS with Biology is accepted by some universities. Do not pick Pre-Engineering or I.Com if you want to be a vet. Check each university's equivalence rules before deciding.
Know which marks will count laterClass 10 board exams
Your Matric or O Level result forms part of the aggregate many universities use for DVM merit, alongside FSc marks and MDCAT. A weak Matric score lowers your final aggregate even if FSc goes well. Treat the spring board exams as your first step toward UVAS-level merit, not a practice run.

Your spring board exams (FBISE, Punjab, Sindh, KPK, Balochistan, AKU-EB boards or Cambridge O Level) are the only formal tests at this stage. No MDCAT or ECAT yet — those come after FSc. Focus on scoring high in Biology, Chemistry and Physics because these marks count in later admission aggregates.

Join your school's science or biology club
If your school has a science society, join it and volunteer to organise a biology quiz or a visit to a dairy farm. If it does not, ask a teacher to start one — it becomes a talking point in later interviews.
Talk to one elder or family contact in animal-related work
A relative who keeps livestock, a poultry farm owner, or a family vet can explain the daily reality — emergency calls, outdoor work, food-safety roles. One honest conversation now is worth more than ten videos.

Government school Matric is nearly free (a few thousand PKR per year in exam and misc fees). Private schools: roughly PKR 3,000–15,000 per month. O Level at private schools: roughly PKR 15,000–40,000 per month plus Cambridge exam fees per subject.
