About
A physiotherapist (physical therapist) assesses and treats problems with movement, muscles, joints and nerves. In Pakistan most enter through a 5-year Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree after FSc Pre-Medical. They work in hospitals, rehab centres, sports teams, clinics and special education settings, using exercise, manual therapy, electrotherapy and mobility training. Demand is rising with an ageing population, more road accidents and growing sports fitness awareness.

Future outlook
Physiotherapy is one of the faster-growing allied health fields in Pakistan. DPT seats have expanded in public and private universities, and demand is rising from road-accident rehab, stroke and diabetes care, sports fitness and special education. Still, public-sector posts are limited, so many graduates build private clinic or home-visit practices. MS/MPhil and specialisation (neuro, ortho, sports, paediatrics) improve pay and standing.

After Class 10 results, summer
Decide and apply: FSc Pre-Medical (or A Levels with Biology)
After results, apply to colleges for FSc Pre-Medical (Biology, Chemistry, Physics). Compare college merit trends and fees. A Levels students should register Biology + Chemistry with CAIE.
Summer after Class 10
Observe a physiotherapy clinic before FSc starts
Spend a day at a local rehab or physiotherapy department to confirm your interest before committing to Pre-Medical and, later, five years of DPT.
What to focus on
Take Science group in Matric — Biology if your board offers itClass 9, at admission time
DPT admission runs through FSc Pre-Medical, which needs strong Class 9–10 science. Choose Biology as your elective where available (FBISE, Punjab, Sindh, KPK, Balochistan boards). If your school only offers Computer Science instead, take it — but self-study Class 9–10 Biology so FSc Pre-Medical Biology doesn't hit you cold.
Treat Matric marks as your first admission currencyClass 10 board exams, spring
Universities like KEMU, UHS, Dow and Riphah weigh FSc marks heavily for DPT merit, and some formulas include Matric marks too. A weak Matric result lowers your aggregate before you even sit MDCAT. Aim for 85%+ overall and 90%+ in Biology.
Master Biology concepts, not just answersThroughout Class 9–10
MDCAT biology is the biggest section, and it builds directly on Matric Biology (cell, human systems, transport, coordination). If you truly understand Class 9–10 Biology now, Class 11 chapters like human physiology will feel like revision, not new work.
Keep Chemistry and Physics strong tooThroughout Class 9–10
FSc Pre-Medical includes Chemistry and Physics, and MDCAT tests all three. Matric Chemistry (bonding, acids) and Physics (motion, electricity) are the foundations of the Class 11–12 syllabus. Don't sacrifice these two for Biology alone.
Start thinking about the FSc group decision nowClass 10, second half
After Matric you must pick FSc Pre-Medical (Biology, Chemistry, Physics) — the standard route to DPT. ICS or Pre-Engineering will not qualify you for DPT. If you're considering A Levels instead, plan Biology + Chemistry + another subject. Decide with your parents by admission season after results.
Shadow or observe a physiotherapist if you canClass 10, school holidays
Ask a family friend or local rehab clinic if you can spend a day observing. Seeing electrotherapy, exercise prescription and patient handling confirms early whether DPT is really for you — before you commit five years to it.
Tests and deadlines
Board exams (Matric / O Level) — the only exams that count nowClass 10, spring
No MDCAT, ECAT or NTS at this stage. Your Class 10 board exams (spring) are the real test: they set your Matric percentage, which feeds later admission aggregates. Practise past papers from your board (FBISE, Punjab, Sindh, KPK, Balochistan or CAIE for O Level) under timed conditions.

Physiotherapy is applied human anatomy. Read free resources like Khan Academy's Human Anatomy & Physiology videos alongside your Matric Biology chapters — muscles, joints and the nervous system especially.
English comprehension and vocabularyDaily, 15 minutes
MDCAT and DPT coursework are in English, and physiotherapists document patient notes in English. Read one English article daily on sites like BBC Future health section; note five new words.
Basic first aid awarenessClass 10, once
St John Ambulance Pakistan and Pakistan Red Crescent (PRCS) run low-cost first aid courses in major cities; PRCS also shares free first aid guides online. Knowing CPR basics and fracture care is a genuine head start for physiotherapy.
Study discipline: past-paper practiceClass 10, monthly
Board exams reward past-paper technique. Download free past papers from your board's website (e.g. FBISE and Punjab BISE publish them) and solve one paper per subject per month from Class 10 onwards.
Fitness and body awarenessDaily habit from Class 9

Ask a relative, teacher or local clinic to connect you with a physiotherapist or a DPT student. One 20-minute conversation about their studies, fees and job reality is worth more than hours of internet browsing.
Join your school's science or health society
Most schools have a science society or health/blood-donation awareness club. Joining gives you event experience, references from teachers, and early leadership material for your future CV.
Create a LinkedIn profile in Class 10
Use your school email, list your school and science subjects, and follow Pakistani physiotherapy pages (e.g. university DPT departments, Pakistan Physical Therapy Association). Spend 10 minutes a week reading what students and professionals post.
Follow rehab and sports medicine content
Follow Pakistani hospital rehab departments and sports physio pages on Instagram/LinkedIn. Watching how physios work in real settings keeps you motivated and informed about the field's scope in Pakistan.
What it costs
Government school Matric is nearly free (a few thousand rupees a year for books/exams); private schools roughly PKR 2,000–15,000 per month. Board exam and practical fees are typically a few thousand rupees. O Level schools cost much more, often PKR 15,000–60,000 per month.
Scholarships
PEEF (Punjab Educational Endowment Fund) and provincial equivalentsAfter Class 10 results
PEEF awards scholarships to Punjab students scoring well in Matric, covering FSc fees. Sindh Endowment, KPK and Balochistan boards run similar schemes — check your province's endowment fund website after results.
Ehsaas / BISP education stipendsOngoing during Class 9–10
Eligible low-income families receive education stipends for children, including secondary level, through the Ehsaas programme. Parents can check eligibility via the Ehsaas/BISP channels.
